There are a lot of things to be proud of in our local community. None more so than the coming together of creativity and endeavour and manifesting in the form of Presteigne’s new Community Barn.

One good idea from Owen Rimington, and a fag-packet design, fired everyone’s interest and before we had even considered the impossibility of undertaking such a monumental task, wheels started to turn.
Money was raised and pledged, permissions granted, designs finalised, helpers mustered.
An extraordinary concerted effort over a number of months saw the groundworks completed, the hybrid larch and steel frame erected and the roofing sheets and cladding applied.
We played our part and built the timber frame and oversaw the safe raising of the main structure.
The barn was completed in time for the Presteigne Carnival and was universally enjoyed by young and old.

“We engaged Castle Ring Oak Frame to work with us building a 150m2 community barn in Went’s Meadow, Presteigne.
The barn is an open structure, free for the public to use all year round and usable as an event space when needed. The design is based on the barrel roofed barns popular here in the post war era. The roof is held up with large arched trusses made in steel and strengthened with decorative steel bracing.
Castle Ring produced the timber framing to hold the main roof up and provide structure for a lean-to building on the back of the barn and a large cantilevered porch on the front.
Castle Ring were involved from the early design process, advising on methods and details to provide the best interface between the timber framing and the steel work. All major parts of the building were fabricated off-site, so it was essential for Castle Ring to provide accurate components to fit with the roof steels and also pre-made timber wall infills. Everything fitted perfectly and didn’t require any adjustment on site.
Castle Ring oversaw the raising of the barn and coordinated the team of both professional and volunteer builders to get the structure up safely”.
